Supplementary Cup – Round 1
Rothwell CIA 0 v Amaranth 2
Honours even in a scrappy first half. The boys looked a little rusty, not having played a game for 6 weeks. Any early attacks from Rothwell were kept at bay by keeper Josh Milsted who gave confidence to a new back four.
Skipper Nick Attack marshalled the defence superbly.
Half time , no score, the boys were encouraged to carry on plugging away and thinks would change.
Will Warne broken the dead lock 10 minutes into the second half. Jack Maltby passed a fine through ball to Will, who finished marvellous half volley into the corner of the net.
By this time the defence looked completely composed , nullifying any Rothwell threats.
Joe Gumby and Patrick Power never stopped battling in midfield. Daniel Smith showed some glassy touches up front on his debut.
The game was put beyond all doubt with minutes to go. Danny Phillips converted a free kick with a thunderous strike from just outside the box.
On the whole the boys ground out a victor against a team flying high in there division. The defence were very impressive and as a unit played solidly. The man of the match was a part of the defence - Josh Milsted the keeper hand a wonderful game. The opposition parents commented to me how well he played.
Well done to Josh and the defence Ben Lynch, Nick Attack, James Kilcoyne and Jack Maltby for the first clean sheet of the season.
This bodes well for the future!
